Recovery Enhancement Program (REP)*

Helping Facilitate Addiction Intervention and Recovery with Monitoring

The Recovery Enhancement Program (REP) is a program to facilitate recovery for individuals who have completed treatment for substance abuse. The REP program monitors the after-care program recommended by the treatment facility, and can often incorporate recommendations by the client’s family. By monitoring a client’s addiction recovery, the REP program can help alleviate recovery concerns. If a client becomes non-compliant, the appropriate sources (family members, etc.) will then be notified.

The REP program, while based on our other professional programs, is for those clients who are not covered by other recovery monitoring programs. Southworth Associates will not monitor those individuals who should be covered under other programs, such as doctors covered under another state’s Physicians Program.

The most typical REP Contract requirements for after-care monitoring are Urinalysis (UA) testing, attendance at 12 Step meetings, and meetings with a 12 Step sponsor. Many clients also attend aftercare/outpatient services or individual therapy. The REP program will not create a REP Contract that monitors fewer/less stringent requirements than what is recommended by the treatment facility.

REP Monitors Rehab Contract Requirements By:

  • UA testing – Clients call into an automated system Monday through Friday to see if they are selected to test. Testing facilities and supplies are already pre-arranged. REP UA tests are among the most sophisticated tests available and any positive results are reviewed by our Medical Review Officer to determine if the test clears or fails.
  • 12 Step Meetings – Clients record their 12 Step group and sponsor meetings on Self-Reporting slips provided by the Recovery Enhancement Program. They need to get their attendance confirmed by their sponsor and sign the slips themselves indicating that they have been in compliance with their REP Contract.
  • Aftercare/Outpatient services and Individual Therapy – The Recovery Enhancement Program will request monthly (sometimes quarterly depending on the case) reports from the service provider.

REP Program Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

1. Who can be monitored under the Recovery Enhancement Program?
Anyone in a addiction recovery program for substance abuse who is not covered under another monitoring program is eligible for REP. Clients range from high school students to engineers.

2. How do we get our family member into Recovery Enhancement Program?
Have the potential client contact us at 1-800-386-1695. We will need a Release of Information to contact their addiction treatment center and get their after-care recommendations.

3. How long does it take to get into the REP program?
The whole process can take 1-2 weeks depending on several factors. Once we get the Release of Information form and some contact information we will make the necessary arrangements for UA testing. We will contact the treatment center and put together a REP Contract during this initial set-up time. If Southworth Associates is contacted before the second-to-last week of treatment, we can usually have a new client entered into the REP program the day they discharge.

4. What is the cost of the Recovery Enhancement Program?
The cost of recovery monitoring is variable depending on the length of the billing cycle and in some cases the treatment center pays for all or part of REP. Normally there is a one time set-up charge and clients are billed in yearly increments. There are additional charges for drug testing, treatment, counselor sessions, etc. that are not part of the REP billing.

Please feel free to contact Southworth Associates at 1-800-386-1695 to discuss the Recovery Enhancement Program.

* The Recovery Enhancement Program used to be called the Southworth Associates Monitoring (SAM) Program, but was renamed after input from program participants. Some treatment centers have elected to retain the old name for their enrolled clients.
