Teenage drug abuse can tear a family apart. When your adolescent is abusing drugs and acting out as a result, you can feel helpless. It is difficult sometimes to accept the fact that your teenager who was so sweet just a few years ago is now addicted to marijuana. Addiction is typically not associated with being a teenager. When we think of addicts, we picture the street addict who panhandles for money to buy drugs. However, when your teen shows signs of underage drug abuse, tough decisions need to be made. Oftentimes your efforts will produce no results, and your teenager will continue to abuse drugs. This is the time when you should contact the experts at Southworth Associates. We have the background and experience necessary to execute the delicate intervention approach required for dealing with teenage drug addiction. Adolescent addiction to marijuana continues to be the most commonly abused substance in the United States. However, Southworth Associates can help. Begun by John Southworth in 1998, Southworth Associates provides a unique approach to intervention programs, monitoring and consulting services for addicted adolescents. We are prepared to speak to all the issues concerning addictive behaviors where there are unmistakably unmet treatment needs. Southworth Associates report that research indicates marijuana intoxication can bring about imprecise perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty in thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory loss which can last for days or weeks. Additionally the effects of long-term marijuana use or marijuana addiction can result in dysfunctional social behavior relating to family, school, work and recreational interactions.
New Haven Teen Marijuana Use
New Haven, Connecticut
is the second largest city in Connecticut and the sixth largest in New England. It is the home of Yale University. With a population of nearly 130,000 people, New Haven is the principal municipality in the Greater New Haven metropolitan area, which has a population of almost 600,000. It is located in New Haven County, on New Haven Harbor and on the northern shore of Long Island Sound. In 2010, New Haven ranked as the 18th most dangerous city in the United States. However, according to a completely different analysis conducted by the 24/7 Wall Street Blog, in 2011, New Haven has risen to become the fourth most dangerous city in the United States, and is widely recognized in the press as such. In a new study conducted by Yale School of Medicine, it appears that gender and race may play a role in determining how much high school students experiment with marijuana. Research indicates that Caucasian female adolescents, between the ages of 15 and 17, are more likely to use marijuana than African-American or Asian girls, although more African-American and Hispanic boys of the same age use marijuana more than other ethnicities. The study, published in the 2011 March edition of the Journal of Addiction Medicine, also found that teenage girls transition faster from initial marijuana use to regular use than adolescent boys. Some of the results were particularly surprising for example, participation in extracurricular activities is associated with a lower rate of marijuana use by both genders, but the study showed this appears to be connected to reduced female marijuana use more so than that of male teenagers.
